Defense Puerto Rico and Defense Reinsurance were founded in 2020 as specialized insurance and reinsurance agencies focused on expanding capacity and expertise across Puerto Rico, Latin America, and the Caribbean. In 2024, Defense Reinsurance became the first specialty‑lines reinsurance MGA based in Puerto Rico to enter the Middle East and North Africa markets. In early 2026, it secured a worldwide financial and commercial lines binder, extending access to markets in Europe, the United Kingdom, Asia, Australia, the United States, and Canada.

Our investment in insurtech solutions and AI‑powered automated underwriting software enables us to deliver advanced technology and streamlined solutions that strengthen long‑term client relationships.
President Charles Juarbe Laffitte brings more than 20 years of underwriting and brokering experience in specialty and casualty lines, including work in the New York, London, and Miami markets. He has underwritten over $300 million in gross written premiums and placed more than 750 accounts worldwide.
